A picture tells a thousand words and so with a few ones added of my own, let me tell you some stories!
So they are cleaning St Paul's cathedral for his 300th birtday. He was completed in 1707 and they haven't cleaned him in 300 years! So this is the difference between the clean side and 300 years of grime. Amazing isn't it?
